How long does it take to make a decision? A moment, hours, days, years? Well the answer to that is any of the foregoing! It takes as long as you want it to take.
It is possible to make a decision at the snap of your fingers. Make the decision and go with it. What have you got to lose? There are many exercises for this and you can procrastinate as much as you want. The real decision is to take that decision and to do what you really want to do.
Ask yourself, how much longer do you need to be bullied by someone? How much longer can you stay in a job you hate? How about a relationship you hate? There are many scenarios that you can conjure up and only you know how and what you want to do about it.Technorati Profile
You can be pushed into a decision you don’t want to do. How do you know that you have been pushed, because you won’t work hard enough for it.
If you want to do something badly enough, hate something badly enough, you can snap your fingers and change.
Decisions can be large or small. Even deciding what shopping you need is a decision. All decisions have some sort of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’. I want to buy a new car but only if I have enough money.
First you need to decide what it is you want. Is there a decision you want to make? Ask yourself ‘what is it I want?’ ‘how will I get it?’ ‘what do I need to do to get it?’
Your tomorrow is in your decisions made today.
You make decisions every day of your life. Shopping, what to wear, what to eat, who to phone. They don’t actually shape your life. But do they. What about stories when young talented people are plucked out of obscurity and become famous because someone saw them, i.e Edith Piaf who was seen singing in the Pigalle area of Paris singing in a nightclub. Or Twiggy who was working in a hair salon when Justin de Villenauve saw her and turned her into a top model. Whose was the better decision, the finder or the findee?
If Archduke Franz Ferdinand hadn’t decided to go and visit the people who were injured when a bomb was thrown at his car in an assassination attempt, the first world war may not have occurred! We normally make decisions that take us out of our comfort zones. What if we didn’t. What if we envisaged a life outside our comfort zone? it. What would happen if you did that? Even thinking about it, made me uncomfortable. How many times have you taken yourself to that place where it felt so uncomfortable that you wanted to scurry back to your comfort zone. Try it with a tiny bit of difference in your life and see how it goes.
Think about something you had decided you really wanted to wear that day. Then stop and put something else on. How uncomfortable were you with that? What happened, was it really so bad. What about when you really think you would like egg and chips for dinner. Your taste buds were watering for this meal. You get home and you have no eggs. Wow, what do you do, run out and buy some eggs or can you stop yourself and decide to have something else instead? Which is the decision you will make, forget about your taste buds or have a later meal after you have bought your eggs?
Once you have made the decision, you can feel a sense of relief that it is made. You may also feel apprehension. The ifs and buts may raise their ugly heads but if you go with the decision you made, you will deal with these little gremlins. Visualise what it will be like, once you have made the decision.
A client of mine wants to emigrate. She is totally sure she wants to emigrate but emotional ties are making her question the decision. The statement she keeps making to herself is, ‘what is the worse that can happen? If I don’t like it, I can return but if I don’t go I will always wonder whether I should have done it’. She is now going through the start of emigration, along with the emotions she is feeling.
Take the plunge now and make a decision today.
